Entrepreneurs Foundation’s Freedom Day: Volunteers To Give Time, Energy To Community In Honor Of Lives Lost And Changed On 9/11
–Ignite Technologies to be among 40 Other Companies To Restore And Renew Six Dallas-Area Fire Stations–
DALLAS, September 8, 2008 – The Entrepreneurs Foundation of North Texas (EFNT) will host its seventh annual Freedom Day on Thursday, September 11, bringing together more than 400 EFNT volunteers for a day of community service in honor of those whose lives were lost and changed by the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
This year, EFNT, a fund at Communities Foundation of Texas, is privileged to partner with the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department (DFR). Because of budget constraints, firefighters live and work with increasingly deteriorating conditions within their stations. On Freedom Day, EFNT volunteers will pour into six area stations to perform repairs and improvements, including painting, landscaping and refinishing woodwork. The day will begin with a morning gathering of reflection, and then conclude with a service celebration.
“This is Ignite’s second year participating in Freedom Day, and we are excited to serve our community along with other companies on Freedom Day,” said Jim Janicki, president and chief executive officer at Ignite, which is one of 40 of companies participating in Freedom Day. “Last year, Ignite employees served the community by building much needed, shelves and cubbies for books and backpacks. This year we are bringing out the power tools again, and helping with several construction projects at our assigned fire station,” added Janicki.
Pam Gerber, executive director of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of North Texas, calls volunteering “one of the most uniquely American things we can do,” adding “this year’s service project is especially meaningful, considering these are the people that risk their lives for our community everyday. The work accomplished on Freedom Day is more than just giving a ‘face lift’ to the stations, it’s a chance for people to unite for a single cause and being a part of it gives everyone an amazing sense of accomplishment.”
Now in its seventh year, previous EFNT Freedom Days have been held in partnership with organizations including Catholic Charities of Dallas at the Brady Center, Interfaith Housing Coalition, the Wilkinson Center, Community Homes for Adults Incorporated, Camp Summit, Junior Achievement and The Science Place. Freedom Day is a service project for the more than 60 North Texas companies that participate in EFNT. Additional information about Freedom Day is available online at www.efnt.org.
